Bio

THERESA JULIAN is an award-winning writer who has won acclaim as a business writer and screenwriter and has just finished her first middle-grade novel. Theresa earned a B.A. in English from Boston College and an M.A. in Corporate Communications from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She has worked as a business/technical writer for Fortune 500 companies in northern New Jersey and has won numerous awards from the Society for Technical Communication, including an International and Best of Show award.

Her first screenplay SOLIO placed in the top 15 percent of the 5,000 entries received at the Academy of Motion Picture’s Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting. Following that, her sci-fi thriller, THE BLEEDING EDGE, won several competitions including a Semifinalist award from Scriptpimp.com and became a scouting qualifier at both Scriptshark.com and the 20/20 Screenwriting contest.

Theresa was looking for a new writing challenge when she overheard her 10-year-old daughter and friends giggling about the dreadful things they wished could happen to their annoying brothers. The conversation was so precious that Theresa decided to take the advice of the old adage “write what you know” and her middle-grade novel, YUCKY CHARMS, was born. The humorous, wacky adventure is based somewhat on the true-life antics of her children: Maria, Nicholas, Dana and Daniel. The later three are triplets who are in middle school, so Theresa feels she knows the age group really, really well.

Theresa loves writing middle-grade fiction. It’s a place where characters face monumental challenges, skirt danger at every turn, learn to live and grow and change, laugh a lot along the way, and everything usually ends happily. Theresa believes that writing middle-grade fiction is a beautiful way to spend the day.
