Bio
Charles Mattocks, “aka” The Poor Chef, has made a name for himself as the author of “Eat Cheap but Eat Well,” Wiley 2009. His famous tag line of “What can you cook for $7 dollars” has taken the country by storm. The meals are healthy, cost effective and delicious. The inspiration behind this concept was his son, Armani, and his legendary uncle, the late reggae legend Bob Marley. When Charles started to raise his son as a single father, Armani was a picky eater and Charles was eager to find ways to feed his son healthy and affordable meals. Together they created “The Poor Chef” and set out to change the way people eat. The idea was to see real people prepare healthy meals for $7 dollars or less. Charles soon found himself taking this idea to the NBC show Daytime, where he was a regular for over a year. Soon after, the calls came in and Charles found himself on major television shows all across the country. It was happening, people were cooking healthy and inexpensive meals, and it was fun. His love for healthy food fueled his passion for health and wellness. Charles, The Poor Chef, has a line of sauces, an on-line magazine, a cook book--"Eat Cheap but Eat Well", and a doll that is in the works. Additionally, Charles has teamed up with USDA Pyramid, a program that teaches elementary school children about healthy foods.
Charles is also promoting a new movement for which he has produced a radio show, a newsletter and is preparing to launch a one day wellness seminar called “The Healthy Dish.” The Healthy Dish will deal with such topics as food, health and relationships. Charles has been a regular on The Dr. Oz Show, The Today Show and The Bonnie Hunt Show; he has been a guest on Martha Stewart Radio and has up-coming appearances on Good Morning America. Charles also has his own television show in the works for a major network called The Healthy Dish that he describes as "The View meets Dr. Oz". For more information on Charles, please visit:
