Candace Whitman was born on Long Island not far from New York City. She loved art as a child, and went on to study art history in college and then teach art as a profession. She always did her own art as well, and became inspired by the children in the elementary school where she taught to try her hand at illustrating children’s books. She took her portfolio around to publishers and has been thrilled ever since to have the chance to work in the field as illustrator and author as well. Her preferred medium is collage, in which she works by hand – painting paper, then tearing or cutting the shapes for her picture.
